X Factor 2010: Tearful Cher Lloyd is queen of the night but it's a Halloween horror as Aiden murders thriller and Wagner mangles his languages

The stage was set for a showdown between bitter rivals Katie Waissel and Matt Cardle.

But on the night it was the fragile Cher Lloyd who was queen of the X Factor night with a powerful rendition of Shakespeare's Sister song Stay.

However, the young singer struggled to hold it together towards the end when she was overcome by emotion and the tears started to flow.

Dressed in a full length black dress with no sign of her favoured hip-hop style, the tiny singer held on tight to the microphone as she sat on a throne of twigs and sung her way right to the front of the competition.

Mentor Cheryl called it 'epic' but show boss Simon Cowell anointed her as the show's frontrunner saying, 'That wasn't just performance of the night, it was the performance of the entire season.

'I think you are special, you proved a point this week. You're only 17 years old and that performance, by any standard, was absolutely incredible.'

But in a well-observed comment he added: 'My only criticism is Cheryl trying to turn you into her!'

Louis said: 'Cher I don’t know why you’re crying, this was an absolutely incredible performance and tonight you proved that you really can sing, you’re not just a one trick pony rapper. That was probably the best performance of the night.'

Judge Dannii called it a 'beautiful performance.'

Mentor Cheryl gushed: ' Cher it was epic, it was so beautiful, I'm so proud of you tonight.'

But the same could not be said for the car-crash performances by Brazilian born Wagner and Aiden Grimshaw, 18.

Aiden's rendition of Thriller wasreminiscent of Darius Danesh's Britney Spears moment, as he completely murdered the song making it and angsty, tortured mess.

Louis said: 'Aiden, my feeling is that was a big, big challenge; Dannii you gave him a really big challenge.

'I liked the way you totally changed the song. Very intense performance, you’re very intense performer.'


One Direction managed to avoid disaster tonight and put in a good performance accompanied by plenty of screaming

While Cheryl said: 'Not every song requires that intensity. I’d like to see you smile a little bit more.'

Simon said 'it was bizarre... It was indulgent. It was too much to the left. It was frustrating because it could have been fantastic, it was too slow, for too long.'

And Wagner's medley of O Fortuna/ Meatloaf's Bat Out Of Hell was particularly hard to understand as he stumbled through it was his heavily accented take on it.

Simon asked: 'What the hell was that? Louis what are you drinking. I didn’t understand a single word!

'Having said that, people like you and if they vote for you I can always leave the country! I like you, you’re a trier, good luck to you. Dannii called it 'unusual' while Cheryl said: 'It was a little out of time.'

However, for once the judges in-fighting was put in the shade by some stunning performances on the night from Rebecca Ferguson, Mary, and Paije.

Simon gave high praise to Rebecca's stunning performance of Chris Isaak song Wicked Game: 'I can tell that you’re nervous tonight. But that was total utter class.

'You’re beginning to remind me of when Leona Lewis was on this show and I saw somebody who week after week was turning into a star. Great, great choice of song.'
Bookmakers Coral slashed her odds from 5-1 to 3-1 to win the show after her performance.

Cole told her: 'You are exactly what this show is about. You are world class.'
Dubliner Mary Byrne sang an "incredible" rendition of Could It Be Magic and One Direction, wearing torn clothes with white face make-up and red eyeliner, sang an upbeat version of Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse of the Heart.

Paije Richardson, who was criticised for his clothes style by Cowell in the past, donned a black suit jacket and red bow tie for his performance of Back To Black.

The 11 hopefuls will have to wait until the results show tomorrow night to find out who will bow out of the show next.

Secret affair: Cher Lloyd 'smitten' with One Direction's Zain Malik - despite Simon Cowell's 'love ban'

Cher Lloyd has found love with fellow X Factor finalist Zain Malik - despite Simon Cowell's 'love ban' amongst the show's contestants.

The fragile 17-year-old has been trying to keep her blossoming romance with the One Direction heart-throb - also 17 - secret to avoid the show boss's wrath.

But it has emerged that Simon found out about it almost as soon as they got together - but has chosen to ignore it rather than give them a rollicking over the relationship.

Cowell issued an edict early on in the competition that he would not tolerate any physical contact between contestants this year.

But a source told the News Of The World: 'Cher and Zain are very much an item. Neither of them are your typical X Factor contestant. They're not prepared to change their image or compromise who they are.'

The pair apparently got together after they'd got through the Judges' Houses stage of the show and made the live finals.

Since living together in the contestant's £3.5million rented mansion in Mill Hill, north London, the pair have become less guarded however.

Last week, they apparently became the talk of the house when they kissed in front of fellow contestants.

However, mentor Cheryl Cole is said to be worried about what will happen if the young sweethearts split while still competing in the live finals.

Cher is already an emotionally fraught young girl, as demonstrated when she broke down in tears live on the show last night after singing her version of Shakespears Sister's Stay.

It's the second time the teen from Malvern in Worcestershire has dissolved in tears on camera.

She caused controversy after breaking down at the Judges' Houses stage of the show and failing to sing her audition song - but was put through to the live finals anyway at the expense of Gamu Nhengu.

It's also being reported that One Direction - who last night covered Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse Of The Heart and who Cowell also mentors - are sitting on two more secret relationships.

Apparently, Louis Tomlinson is dating former Doncaster schoolmate and fellow 18-year-old Hannah Walker.

Meanwhile Liam Payne, 17, is said to be with childhood sweetheart Shannon Murphy, 16.
However, rumours that Matt Cardle had bedded Katie Waissel turned out to be false - with Matt furiously accusing Katie of making up the story for the tabloids.

I don't! Danielle Lloyd calls off wedding to Spurs footballer Jamie O'Hara following 'string of rows'

They had a whirlwind romance and got engaged just seven months into their relationship when she fell pregnant - but now Danielle Lloyd has shown her footballer fiance Jamie O'Hara the red card and called off their wedding.

The pair got engaged in November 2009 and they had a big money magazine wedding planned for June this year.

But following a string of rows since becoming parents to three-month-old son Archie, Danielle, 26, has called a halt to the plans.

A spokesman for glamour model Danielle - who was at the centre of the 2007 Celebrity Big Brother racism row along with the late Jade Goody - told MailOnline:
'Like any young couple with a newborn baby, Danielle and Jamie have seen how easy the pressures of parenthood can affect a relationship.

'With this in mind, they have decided to postpone their wedding next year and concentrate on raising Archie and working hard on their respective careers.

'They are very much in love and want to make things work.'

A source had told the News Of The World: 'Danielle and Jamie have hit the rocks. Last week in particular was tough for them. They're trying to work through their problems.'

Tottenham midfielder Jamie, 24, who's currently out of action with an injury, got down on one knee during a romantic break in Paris.

At the time Danielle said: I thought maybe I'd have some of my celebrity friends. It's definitely going to be a big celebrity do - Jamie's got all his footballer mates and I've got my celebrity friends too.

'We want a big wedding down south. But I would like to have maybe a blessing in Liverpool cathedral as it means a lot to me and my family.'

Danielle got together with Jamie - the third Spurs player she'd dated - in April 2009 after meeting him down her local gym in Essex

Danielle leapt to fame as the girlfriend of retired England and Spurs player Teddy Sheringham in 2006, who she met while he was a judge on the Miss Great Britain panel.

Ms Lloyd insisted their relationship didn't start until after the beauty pageant, which she won.

However, Lloyd was later stripped of the title after she did a nude shoot for Playboy later that year.

Sheringham famously dumped Lloyd after her controversial appearance on 2007's Celebrity Big Brother, in which she, Jade Goody and Jo O'Meara were accused of the racist bullying of Indian actress Shilpa Shetty.

Later that year, she went on to date Birmingham City striker Marcus Bent and Juventus star Armand Traore.

She also had a brief two month romance with Spurs striker Jermain Defoe in early 2008 and dalliances with Liverpool winger Ryan Babel and Gladiator Tornado, aka David Mcintosh.

Lloyd was also briefly engaged to popstar DJ Ironik in 2008.

Yesterday, the model was spotted out unusually dressed down and with her hair in rollers - just like Coronation Street legend Hilda Ogden.

Her mumsy look was in stark contrast to the glossy model look she's normally known for.

And it appears baby Archie is set to follow in his mother's foosteps with a career in fornt of the cameras too.

Danielle has recently been rallying her followers on Twitter to vote for him in the 2010 Next Baby Boutique Model competition.

The beauty contest run by the high street store lands the winner a prize of a £500 gift card.
